Cultural Festival of Floating Market 2016 in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.


South Kalimantan is set  to entice the arrival of  local and international tourists by holding Cultural Festival Floating Market. This exciting event is, coincided with the 490th anniversary of Banjarmasin , held in Siring, Martapura River, Jalan PierreTendean, Banjarmasin, on September  from 16 to 20, 2016. This event has been held eight times this year.

During the five days of the festival in the eighth time, various art and culture activities of South Kalimantan, will be presented including the parade and ornamental boats on the Martapura river.There are nine competitions held in the Cultural Festival Floating Market including competition of Cultural Parade, Banjar Fashion Carnaval, Festival Sinoman Hadrah,  Traditional Games Balogo Competition , Culinary Festival Area at Kampoeng Banjar, Sasirangan Street Festival, Cooking Competition of Hotel and Restaurant Chefs,Ornamental Boat Competition among Floating Market Traders and Photo Competition  with objects from  Floating Market Festival.

In addition to being a permanent agenda of provincial government, the cultural festival floating market also has become an annual event of tourism calendar in the Ministry of Tourism. Therefore, promotion and publicity not only a national scale, but also can be seen in overseas travelers through the website of the festival.The annual festival aims to develop the local tourism industry. The tourism industry is expected to support the regional economy in the midst of the decline of the mining industry in South Kalimantan.

Visit Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan : Pasar Terapung.



When in Banjarmasin, it is worth visiting a unique attraction of Pasar Terapung or floating market on Barito river which is considered among the longest rivers in Indonesia.  Most tourists, both domestic and foreign,will never miss this daily morning event which is difficult to find else where in Indonesia. Generally they really enjoy the sightseeing trip because in addition to the floating markets, tourists also enjoy the life of the people residing along the watersheds whose houses are all made of wood.

Floating Market at Barito River is traditional floating market located on the Barito river , Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.Traders and buyers are using jukung or boat  in Banjar language to sell and buy goods. The market begins after dawn prayers until after seven in the morning and no more activities afterward. 

It is called floating market because buying and selling transactions carried out in boats . Goods sold almost the same as the existing markets in the mainland which are generally daily needs of food, such as fish, vegetables, and fruits.In the floating market, vendors are there too selling prepared foods, such as coffee, tea, cake, rice for breakfast with a variety of menus, such as soto banjar, fried fish, and satay.

To go to the floating market that is in the Village area Kuin Alalah, North Banjarmasin that visitors should come early in the morning to the harbor in the village of North Kuin or precisely located in front of the Sultan Mosque Suriansyah.

Floating Market

This market has become the hallmark of the city of Banjarmasin. The floating market is the process of buying and selling is done on a boat that floats. Currently, the floating market has become the most visited tourist attractions in Banjarmasin by tourists.

One of the popular floating market is that there is at the mouth of the Barito River, precisely in the Village North Kuin, Banjarmasin. This market is estimated to have existed since 400 years ago. Goods sold was varied ranging from the gardens, food to clothing. To be able to watch the activity in this market, you have to come in the morning because this market only last from 05:00 until 07:00.

In the past, what happens here is barter or exchange goods without using money. Although now using money as a means of exchange, but there are some who still do barter goods. What is interesting in this floating market is the stick with the tip of the wire to pick up the purchased items because of the difficulty juxtapose boat ride.

Taman Sungai Siring Martapura

Another tourist attractions in Banjarmasin which rely on the river is Taman Sungai Siring located on Jalan Sudirman and  Jalan Kapten Tendean. The park is located on the banks of the River of Martapura and visited during the afternoon. From here, you can see the boats or boat activity typical of Banjarmasin in the river. Please take a fishing pole and satisfy your fishing hobby at this tourist spot. If you want to enjoy the scenery around the river, you can sit on a bench that has been provided while enjoying culinary stalls that lined the park.

Mascot Park

As the name implies, these attractions featuring two mascots of Banjarmasin city, Bekantan, and musk tree. At the entrance, you are greeted by a statue of the size of an adult human proboscis. Not far behind, there is a statue of musk trees with monkeys swinging -monyet.

To the right of the entrance, there is a house plant that contains a lot of cactus, aloe vera and several other plants in pots. For facilities, Mascot Park has been equipped with a parking area, mosque, toilets, park benches, food stalls and a playground for children.

These attractions are in the center of the city of Banjarmasin, precisely at Jalan H. Djok Mentaya.

Museum Wasaka

Museum Wasaka stands Waja Until Kaputing which is the motto of the struggle of the people of South Kalimantan. This historical sights located in Jalan H. Andir, Recalls Kampung Ulu, North Banjarmasin. The architecture is traditional house Banjarmasin shaped stage with a high roof.

 Flower Island

Flower Island is an island located in the middle of the Barito River. This tourist spot is a habitat of monkeys and several types of birds. According to residents, in this island there is a huge monkey is the monkey king.

While on the island, be careful with your luggage. The monkeys are often curious and wanted to see what you are carrying. Should bring snacks or fruit to distract them from your bag.

Interestingly, on this island there is a temple and altar with a statue of a monkey-shaped white or Hanoman. This altar, by the Chinese people, used to put offerings at certain moments.


This tourist spot is about 1.5 km from the center of the city of Banjarmasin. Diamond Market Martapura


The diamond market is in Jalan Ahmad Yani, Martapura, or about 45 km from the center of the city of Banjarmasin. This market is becoming a proper tour for fans of gemstones. Martapura known as the city with the largest gemstone mining in Indonesia. Gemstones here are of good quality.
In this market, there are about 87 gemstone stores. In addition to buy it in the form of rocks, you can also purchase a gemstone that has been processed into various forms such as necklaces, bracelets, rings and brooches. visitors to this market not only domestic tourists, many tourists from Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore who came here.

Edge River Culinary Center Martapura

If you want to enjoy a unique culinary Banjarmasin in one place, you can come to the center of culinary Banjarmasin located in Jalan Pos linking Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Hasanuddin.

On the road 300 meters long, there are about 52 food stalls selling a variety of unique culinary Banjarmasin like laksa, yellow rice, soto Banjar and lupis. In addition, there is a national dish of fried rice and also culinary dishes from other areas such as Padang and Palembang.

Kampung Sasirangan

Loksado at Meratus Mountain

Loksado is the name of a village in the Kandangan, South Kalimantan, about 2.5 hours from Banjarmasin. The village is crossed by a river named Amandit. Amandit River is sourced from the mountains Meratus, has a fairly heavy flow with the stream filled with rocks so it was suitable for rafting, and the raft used here traditionally made from bamboo. Appropriate season to play the raft is about April to June when the water debit is not too shallow and not too deep.


In addition to rafting, Travelers also have the opportunity to visit the village Malaris, a Dayak Meratus Tribe village that still very natural and there are relics of the house "Betang", which is a long house-shaped letter "L" and is inhabited by dozens of families.
