Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan, USA

Brooklyn Bridge is more than one hundred years old, build between 1869 and 1883, still one of the most famous tourist attraction. The iconic image connects Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The history of Brooklyn Bridge starts right from the start of its construction. The construction started in 1870 and took another thirteen year to complete finally in 1883. At that time this bridge was a wonder for the world. The bridge is one of the several masterpiece bridges designed by John Augustus Roebling.

One day Augustus Roebling was crossing the bridge with ferry boat but ended up stuck in the ice, this was the story behind the idea of creating bridge across the East River.
Unfortunately he died during the work was in progress. John Augustus was German born road builder also worked for Prussian government as road and bridge builder. 


After his death his son, Washington Roebling took over the command of project of Brooklyn Bridge Manhattan. Washington himself suffered poor health his supervisory period and suffered from the caisson-disease. Her wife took engineering and overseer duties to her hand and conveyed massages from Washington Roebling to workers. 20 out of 600 workers died while working on the bridge.

Bridge was opened on May 24, 1883 with firework celebration. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of thousand people and many ships in East BaY. President Chester A. Arthur and Mayor Franklin Edson were also presence at ceremony. About 150000 people crossed the bridge the President and Mayor were the first of them. To make bridge strong a network of cables of which four strongest have a diameter of 11 inches are anchored in the ground. The other cables are strong enough to support the bridge.

One of the New York’s most popular landmarks, The Brooklyn Bridge stretches for a length of 5989 feet (1.8 KM) flowing over East River between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Tower to Tower measurement is 486 meters long. These calculations made it the world’s longest suspension bridge at the time of completion. Approximately 5000 pedestrians, 2500 bicyclists, and 140000 small and heavy vehicles cross the bridge daily.

Cross the bridge on foot is a popular thing to do on Brooklyn Bridge. It was not only made to give you the opportunity to cross the river without being bothered by traffic but also gives you a wonderful experience of seeing the breathtaking views of Brooklyn, Manhattan skylines, and East River.

Statue of Liberty Symbol of New York, USA

The first image which tourist, from around the world who visit USA, wants to see is the Statue of Liberty. This is not only recognition of New York but also USA. It was the gift given to USA by the French government for the 100 anniversary of America’s Independence.

The French sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi designed the copper statue completed in 1884. While shipped to NY Harbor after a year later. The sculpture is of a robed crowned lady, has seven spikes, symbolizing the Seven Seas and Seven Continents across which liberty should be spread, having a tablet (upon which is inscribed the date of Declaration of Independence) in her left hand while left hand has a torch( symbolizing Enlightenment).


Statue soon became the icon of USA, featured in numerous Hollywood movies. The French engineer Gustave Eiffel, who made the Eiffel Tower, made the steel framework for Liberty Statue, with original copper plates attached with metal framework and for its support the large iron bars attach with framework. It construction is much stronger to withstand heavy storms.


After completion Bartholdi himself went US to discuss with Ulyssess S. Grant (US President) where to erect the statue. The island near the harbor of NYC (a small island) was finalized. Since then, the island is known as Liberty Island. The statue was erected ten years later, after construction of the pedestal for it, in 1886 with an officially inauguration by president Grover Cleveland. The Americans themselves collected the funds for it. During this session the torch remain displayed in Madison Square Park.

Before discussion on the height of statue we tell you that The Statue of Liberty is open 364 days per year only remain closed on 25 December (Christmas Day). This Tall Statue of Liberty is 151 feet tall without pedestal. And with pedestal it reaches on height of 305 feet the pedestal is 154 feet tall. The 354 steps staircase inside the statue can take up you to the crown here visitors can have a spectacular view over NYC. The tickets must purchase in advance to avoid the tension of waiting in line. The Island and Statue of Liberty tour provides visitors an awesome experience and lesson about their history. (The torch was officially closed on July 1916)

Times Square, The Hert of New York, USA

Times Square is the most inhabited square of New York, known for its vast array of hotels, shopping, theaters, cinemas, huge electronic billboards and nightlife. It is a place which never sleeps. This major commercial and entertainment intersection is located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. The Square is also home to MTV’s headquarters and ABC’s “Good Morning America” is broadcast in front of a live audience from its office at 44thand Broadway.

In 1904, The New York Times moved there and convinced the city’s mayor to change the name of area into Times Square. The old name was Longacre Square. The square was in front the building on 43rd street in which the The New York Times moved. Till then this name used for the whole area located between (40thand 53rd street) and (6th and 9th avenue). New York Time celebrated the new headquarters inauguration at One Times Square with fireworks and with famous ball drop celebration. The famous celebration style began on 31 Dec, 1907, and continues today, attracts almost a million visitors on every New Year’s Eve.

The city’s most safe place The Time Square became a spot which attracts millions of tourists so the city management thought to convert the square into billboard display. These days these billboards have become a popular tourist attraction. According to history, 1917 was year in which the first bigger electric display was lit and after 11 years in 1928 the first running electric sign was installed which announced the victory of Herbert Hoover in presidential elections.


Along with bright display signs the vibrant night life is also a popular tourist attraction. The cozy bars and hottest dance club can give visitors something special joy. Some famous restaurants are waiting visitors for dining and some special shops including some crowd pullers such as Disney Store and Toys “R”Us. But the Broadway show is the special one which pulls the plenty to visitors to attend the show.



In other attractions includes a small museum (that gives information about the Times Square history), the Paramount Building, and the Embassy Theater. The first building was the home to Paramount Theater where performers performed in their heyday. The second building is now using for visitors to get information about events and Broadway shows.

Tower Bridge One of The Iconic Symbols of London & UK

One of the most impressive structures and sites in London, Tower Bridge is located over River Thames. One of the most recognizable landmarks in the world and one of the most visited tourist attractions in UK.

During industrial revolution time the capital (London) became more populated and flourished especially the east side industrial area of the city where the Thames was flowing. It was badly needed bridge over River in that area. Before Tower Bridge construction started it took eight years in lots of discussions about its design.

Actually the discussion on a bridge begins in 1876, when a committee was sit to start making plans for Tower Bridge, after a lot of discussions over more than 50 designs the committee finally agree over a design. Designed was created by famous local architect Horace Jones with his teammate John Wolfe Barry’s collaboration. The construction took 11,000 tons of steel to build the framework with help of 450 labors.

The bridge was officially opened in 1894 after completing its construction. Though the Tower Bridge was a bit of an engineering marvel at the time but locals disliked its old Victorian Gothic design, but it prove that they were wrong, it became one of the London’s symbols over the time.

The special design of the bridge allows the passage of large ships along with small because it was needed in that area. The move-able bridge was created which can be opened to give passage heavy traffic in River. The hidden mechanism in two towers opens the Tower Bridge and was powered by stream. Although in 1976, the steam pumps were replaced by an electric system. Both decks of Tower Bridge are 30 meters wide and can be opened to an 83 degrees angle. In past they were opened it almost 20000 times per year but now a days it is raised about 1000 times per year.

Taking a walk in between two towers over Tower Bridge in London can be wonderful experience. A view from top is incredible. Tourists can take pictures through the glassy windows. The 11 meter long glass floors were installed 40 meters above the river.  Taking pictures of Tower Bridge is one of favorite tourist activity. Tickets for Tower Bridge London Exhibit can be purchased online or from ticket office ranging from about 5 to 20 British Pounds, the children under age 5 are free. The opening timing of Tower Bridge is from 9:30 to 6:00 pm daily throughout the year.
