Times Square, The Hert of New York, USA

Times Square is the most inhabited square of New York, known for its vast array of hotels, shopping, theaters, cinemas, huge electronic billboards and nightlife. It is a place which never sleeps. This major commercial and entertainment intersection is located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. The Square is also home to MTV’s headquarters and ABC’s “Good Morning America” is broadcast in front of a live audience from its office at 44thand Broadway.

In 1904, The New York Times moved there and convinced the city’s mayor to change the name of area into Times Square. The old name was Longacre Square. The square was in front the building on 43rd street in which the The New York Times moved. Till then this name used for the whole area located between (40thand 53rd street) and (6th and 9th avenue). New York Time celebrated the new headquarters inauguration at One Times Square with fireworks and with famous ball drop celebration. The famous celebration style began on 31 Dec, 1907, and continues today, attracts almost a million visitors on every New Year’s Eve.

The city’s most safe place The Time Square became a spot which attracts millions of tourists so the city management thought to convert the square into billboard display. These days these billboards have become a popular tourist attraction. According to history, 1917 was year in which the first bigger electric display was lit and after 11 years in 1928 the first running electric sign was installed which announced the victory of Herbert Hoover in presidential elections.


Along with bright display signs the vibrant night life is also a popular tourist attraction. The cozy bars and hottest dance club can give visitors something special joy. Some famous restaurants are waiting visitors for dining and some special shops including some crowd pullers such as Disney Store and Toys “R”Us. But the Broadway show is the special one which pulls the plenty to visitors to attend the show.



In other attractions includes a small museum (that gives information about the Times Square history), the Paramount Building, and the Embassy Theater. The first building was the home to Paramount Theater where performers performed in their heyday. The second building is now using for visitors to get information about events and Broadway shows.
