Champs Elysees Street, Most Popular Street in Paris, France & Europe

One of the world’s most famous avenues The Champs Elysees is located in Paris, France. It is famous for its high standard of elegant scenery, and impossibly magnificent structures. It runs from the Place the la Concorde to the Place Charles de Gaulle (where the Arc de Triomphe is located).




Two kilometers long The Champs Elysees named after Elysian Fields (means the paradise for good souls). Seventy meter wide this street is decorated with cinemas, cafes, theaters, and luxury shops on both sides at its western end. While near the Place de la Concorde (the East end) street is beautifully arranged with gardens, and fountains. The Elysee Palace is located on Northern side, which is the official residence of the French Presidents since 1873.



During the sixteenth and earlier of seventeenth century the Champs Elysees was only a vast agricultural field till 1616. In 1616, a long tree lined path was created from Palais des Tuileries gardens by Marie de Medici. By the passage of time the road was redesigned and extended made it fashionable place. Street was extended straight to Chaillot hill in 1724. French architect Ignaz Hittorf (known for his redesigning of Place de la Concorde) redesigned and reshape into the current shape in 1838 with installation of fountains, sidewalks, and gas lamps while trees and surrounding parkland were allowed to grow as buildings were constructed to line the avenue. It became one of the most fashionable districts is Paris after becoming the city property.


Today Champs Elysees is the house of fashion and style which consider as symbols of the Paris. The latest redesign of avenue converted the side lanes into pedestrian zones, new trees were planted while for vehicles modern underground parking lots were established.

Champs Elysees is not famous for its five and four stars hotels, restaurants, and fashion shops but also for major celebrations. The New Years Eve and where on 14thJuly the military parades held there. The liberation and WWII victory celebrations, the World Cup football victory were also celebrated on this wide avenue.
